The Brief
Marlborough College’s music department, led by the accomplished Artistic Director Philip Dukes, wanted to create a film that would showcase its outstanding department and serve as a tool to attract prospective students and parents.
Our Creative Solution
After initial discussions with Philip to understand his vision and aspirations for the film, Small Films proposed a creative solution. We opted for an autocue scripted piece authored by Philip himself with Small Films collaborating on refining the script. This would be delivered directly to the camera, and combined with film of the music department. Notably, we recorded all music to a very high-quality level, ensuring that the music featured in the film was from Marlborough’s own talented musicians rather than relying on generic library music. The film started with a performance from their excellent student violinist, Poppy, before moving into a piece Philip conducted with his orchestra. It spanned three days of filming and demanded careful planning to capture the essence of Marlborough College’s music department.
The Result
The film successfully portrayed Marlborough College as the place to go if your child is interested in developing their musical ability. And the Marlborough College team were so pleased with the result, that Small Films has since been enlisted to create other departmental films for this leading independent school.
